10 GALWAY RESIDENTS AMONG GROUP TO HAVE OPEN TALK WITH EU VICE PRESIDENT

Ten Galway residents took part in a citizens dialogue in Dublin this afternoon with the EU’s Vice President and Ireland’s Minister for European affairs.
They were among 200 people at the question and answer session in City Hall which focused on topics such as Ireland’s economy, employment and citizens rights.
The event marks the European year of Citizens 2013 which aims to be an open exchange of views on the current economic crisis and the future of the European union.
The Taoiseach, Tanaiste and President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso launched the event this afternoon.
Afterwards, Vice President of the European commission Vivian Reding and Minister of state for European affairs Lucinda Creighton took questions from the public.
City resident Bernard O’ Farrell from Knocknacarra who retired from his post in Teagasc in Athenry three years ago, took part in today’s dialogue.
He says that overall, it was a very positive event.
